The NIH (National Institutes of Health) Public Access Policy was instituted in 2008 to ensure the public has access to the published results of NIH-funded research. The policy requires scientists to submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to PubMed Central (PMC), the NIH’s free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature.
